The short version. Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you book or buy through one, this site may earn a commission and you pay exactly the same price. Commission never decides what gets recommended, and no venue, hotel or brand has ever paid to appear here, to be ranked, or to be described a particular way.

Why you are reading this

United States law requires it. The Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides require that a material connection between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation itself (FTC Endorsement Guides). That is why the disclosure appears on the page next to the link, in the footer of every page, and in full here.

What an affiliate link is

A normal link sends you to a website. An affiliate link sends you to the same website with a tracking identifier attached, so that if you go on to book something, the merchant knows this site sent you and pays a percentage of the booking. The identifier is set by the affiliate network on their domain, not ours. We never see your name, email, card details or what you booked, only aggregate commission reporting.

Where they appear on this site

  • Hotel rate links. Hotel search and rate-comparison links on the hotel pages point to Expedia through its creator programme, and are marked with a "contains an affiliate link" note on the page.
  • Everything else is not an affiliate link. Links to venue websites, official parking pages, transit agencies, news reporting, city government, Reddit threads and restaurant websites earn this site nothing. They are cited because they are the source of a specific factual claim. All of them carry rel="nofollow noopener".

The rules that constrain the recommendations

  • Commission does not affect order or inclusion. Hotels are ranked and grouped by distance, shuttle access and the trade-off they impose on your evening. The walkable hotel is named as the walkable hotel whether it converts or not.
  • No paid placement, ever. No venue, hotel, parking operator, restaurant or brand has paid, or can pay, to appear on this site or to influence how it is described. There is no advertising, no sponsored post and no paid review.
  • Negative information stays in. If a hotel's location is inconvenient, if a garage exits badly, or if a district is quiet at night, the page says so even where the honest answer costs a booking.
  • Sources over assertions. Factual claims are linked to the source they came from so you can check them rather than take our word for it. Where a number is anecdotal or unverified, the page labels it as such instead of presenting it as fact.

Independence

The Event Trip is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any venue, team, promoter, hotel brand or parking operator named on it. Trademarks and venue names are used for identification and editorial commentary only, and remain the property of their owners.
